Tight and square / flat spine has a raised ridge for most of length (as printed.) For this first issue, the printing runs upside-down compared to all later issues. Light to moderate overall wear: front cover has a little more wear along right edge and writing/fraction at upper right corner; back cover has a line next to spine and general overall wear/scuffing. Age tanning is average for its vintage.

Galaxy entered the SF field at the top, and was known as one of the "big 3" magazines of the Fifties, leading the field along with Astounding and Magazine of F&SF. It had its own character, with irony and social satire being prominent. Look at the lineup of authors for this first issue: a who's who of the greats of the time.
