Beyond the last human settlement in the Pleiades, lay the territory of the Moldaug - aliens who were gathering their forces for war. It seemed that the people of the Old Worlds were preparing to sacrifice the colonies of the New Worlds in a cowardly attempt to avert war. But not if frontiersman Cully When had anything to do with it.

An earlier story featuring Cully When was "Hilifter," from 1963. None But Man is Dickson at his prime.

[If the Jack Gaughan cover seems familiar - it was first used on the 1964 Pyramid edition of Poul Anderson's Three Worlds to Conquer.]
