A "new-style" Ace Double (not back-to-back) - with both halves by A. Bertram Chandler. These are the 2 "Rim" novels that feature Derek Calver, along with some recurring characters (like Sonya Verrill) who show up in numerous "Grimes" books. These originally appeared as Ace-Double halves in 1962 or 1964. I think this is the nicest looking version that you will find for them.

The Rim of Space - reprinted from the 1961 Avalon hardcover. This is expanded from "To Run the Rim" (Astounding January 1959.) One of the few "Rim Worlds" books that does not feature John Grimes - the first of 2 books about Derek Calver. Once of the Interstellar Transport Commission, he joins the Rim Runners to be second officer of Lorn Lady. He runs into Sonya Verril, sometime agent of the Federation Secret Service, and has a series of adventures on worlds of the Rim, including an encounter with the Rim Ghost ship Outsider.

The Ship from Outside (copyright 1964) - Derek and Jane Calver, along with other crew from the Rimfire, get prize money from salvaging a ship and decide they want to work for themselves instead of Rim Runners. They buy an old starship and renamed it the Outsider. Calver was obsessed with discovering the secret of intergalactic space - even though the only man who had survived the experience came back with a deranged mind. Expanded from "Familiar Pattern" from Astounding in 1959 (under the pseudonym "George Whitley.")
