Dustjacket has a couple of 1/4" closed tears along top edge, 1 of which has been neatly repaired on the back with tape.

This is a "fix-up" - the first 2 parts of which are based on 2 novelets: "Songhouse" and "Mikal's Songbird" from Analog (1979/1978.) The second half (last 2 parts) is/are new.
