"Pageant Wagon" was original to the 1989 hardcover, and reprinted in Isaac Asimov's. The others appeared from 1985 to 1989 - in Isaac Asimov's (2), Magazine of F&SF, and Free Lancers. "The Fringe" was a Hugo, Nebula, and Locus-award nominee in 1986; 3 others were Locus-award nominees.
