This is a somewhat whimsical/humorous tale about a rich playboy (Harold Freitas III) who has a time-machine (sort of.) While not actually traveling in time, it can create duplicates of anything- or anyone- from the past. When the pitfalls of bringing forward copies of art-objects is pointed out, Harold hits on the idea of famous ancestors and famous people. But all of these people are from harsher times and more forceful than Harold... In tone and mood, this reminds me of Keith Laumer's The Great Time Machine Hoax.
