The Spawn of the Death Machine (1968), sequel to Android Avenger (1966.) Awakening in a cell, Tanner has memories of the Com-Comp telling him that he is "an artificially contructed human being, a mobile data-gathering device." He cannot dispute the computer's assertion, for he has no memories. Naked, without weapons, Tanner emerges into the savage world of the 23rd Century. He is prey for the bears and cannibals that roam the forested streets of Manhattan. Struggling to survive, Tanner learns that it was the power-crazed computer that had destroyed civilization. If he follows its orders, the machine will again control the fate of mankind. If he rebels, he faces a world eager to destroy his existance. |
