First Avon printing May 1969 paperback (Ziff-Davis hardcover was in 1939, an abridged version was serialized in Amazing in 1943.) Cover by Jeff Jones (!), 190 pages, 75 cent cover price. Condition is Good to VG-: tight with very mild tilt (1/16"); spine is flat with some edgewear; moderate to heavy rubbing on front and back; light overall wear including 1" finger-creases and faint line next to spine; age tanning is mild and uniform (typical for its age.) No stamps, marks or writing - a clean copy.

The New Adam, by Stanley G. Weinbaum, in its first paperback edition - with a superb cover by Jeff Jones. Stanley Weinbaum is somewhat of an early legend in early SF for producting about 2 dozen quality SF stories in his tragically short career in the mid-Thirties. He also had a couple of novels, published posthumously - this is one of those. The SF Encyclopedia describes it as an "account of the career of a potential superman who grows up as a kind of "feral child" in human society; it stands at the head of a tradition of stories which drastically altered the role allotted to superhumans in pulp SF." I know of one other paperback (a British one in 1974.) This may not be fabulously rare, but I think it quite uncommon. In 35 years of collecting SF and haunting used bookstores, I haven't seen many copies in good shape.
