Ace Double M-103 (1964): containing The Golden People by Fred Saberhagen, bound with Exile from Xanadu by Lan Wright. This is the first book appearance for each.

The Golden People by Fred Saberhagen (118 pages; cover and frontispiece by Jack Gaughan.) This is Saberhagen's first book. The planet was called Golden in honor of the planeteer whose ship had crashed there years before. It was an Earth-type world, with humanoid natives, and other creatures that were... something else. Almost all of the planet was covered by an invisible Field which blanked radar, dampend the power of the Earthman's stunners, immobilized their robots and caused watches to run backward. No machine more complicated than a lever or knife could work inside the Field. The Space Force had to revert to the primitive to explore the world. And obviously, someone or something hidden in the vast reaches of the planet had planned it that way...

(Bound with) Exile from Xanadu by Lan Wright (cover by Ed Emshwiller, frontispiece by Jack Gaughan, 137 pages.) Serialized as "Dawn's Left Hand" in New Worlds January to March 1963; British editions of this book are titled Space Born. Regan, a victim of a space-disaster, was rescued by methane-breathing Licharians. They did massive repair-work on him, and then mis-identified him as fellow-passenger Manuel Cabrera when they returned him. But somebody wanted something from Cabrera, because Regan was promptly kidnapped upon his arrival on Earth - despite his protests that he was not Cabrera!
