Ace Double G-576 (1966): Clash of Star-Kings, bound with Danger from Vega.

Clash of Star-Kings, by Avram Davidson. Cover by Jack Gaughan; 105 pages. The Mexican town of Los Remedios was the annual site of the Fiesta of the Holy Hermit. This year it was going to different: partly due to the investigations by American Jacob Clay into buried secrets dating back to the Aztec Empire, but also for the return of alien "gods." This got a Nebula nomination in 1966 for "best novella."

(Bound with) Danger from Vega by John Rackham (later revealed as John T. Phillifent.) Cover by Jack Gaughan; 149 pages. After surviving a battle with the alien Vegans, Lieutenant Jeremy Thorpe and the remaining crew of the Quest take refuge on the nearest possible planet- only to find it peopled by a race of women enslaved by the "Shining Ones"- the Vegans. Sensing a chance for a breakthrough in the War, they strive to get off a signal to Earth. "John Rackham" has always been known for producing fast moving, entertaining space opera.
