The Brain-Stealers, a novel by Murray Leinster. Magazine version in Startling Stories November 1947 as "The Man in the Iron Cap." One of the few Leinster books to get reprints, this is the first American single-edition (the first book appearance was as half of an Ace-Double in 1954.)

James Hunt was an important scientist on the run from the Security Police because of his unauthorised experiments. But he was to be far more important than either he, or his pursuers, could know. For they had arrived; secretly, in out of the way places - and they had begun their program of turning human beings into mindless puppets. Neither side realized it, but Jim Hunt was humanity's last hope for survival.
