Berkley Medalion (first edition) February 1966 paperback. Cover by Richard Powers, 160 pages, 50 cent cover price. Condition is near-Fine: very tight and square with flat spine; faint line near spine at lower left of front cover and a couple of 1" finger-creases on back cover; very mild uniform age tanning. No stamps, marks or writing - a clean copy that looks almost new.

The Time Bender - expanded/revised from "Axe and Dragon" in Fantastic November 1965, January & March 1966. [Some scenes were omitted, some added.] The first book to feature Lafayette O'Leary, whose reading of Schimmerkopf's book on mesmerism causes him to cross the world-lines. All he had to do was "concentrate! Focus the psychic energies!" He ends up in the strangely medieval kingdom of Artesia, whose inhabitants regarded him with suspicion. Lafayette was undaunted: his wish was his desire - sometimes. It turned out that Lafayette's mission in Artesia was the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy: to free the land of Lod's dragon. But there was something wrong about Artesia: the king's magician, Nicodaeus, possessed in his quarters what suspiciously resembled electronic equipment... Lafayette discovers (slowly) that Artesia is really a fault in the Probability Fabric that only he can mend. [This is Laumer in a mostly humorous mode; my favorite part was the Coke machine in the middle of the desert.]
