The Explorers - the first collection of short stories by C. M. Kornbluth. Kornbluth was a master short story writer whose stories are still readable today (unlike many vintage SF writers.) SF suffered a major loss when he died in 1958. (Foreword by Frederik Pohl) Most of these appeared in the short span of 1950 to 1952 - in Worlds Beyond (2), Galaxy (2), Magazine of F&SF, Ten Story Fantasy, Astounding. "Thirteen O'Clock" came from Stirring SF (1941.) "Gomez" was original to the 1954 edition (and reprinted the next year in New Worlds.) This is the first Kornbluth collection; there was a British variant in 1955 that contained 8/9 stories (plus 4 more): The Mindworm. |
