"Gambling Device", "Passage for Piano", and "Encounter in a Lonely Place" appear to be original to this 1973 collection. The rest originally appeared from 1952 to 1957 - in Astounding (2), Fantastic Universe, Startling Stories, Amazing, Fantastic, and "Seed Stock" from Analog (1970.) All of these stories are previously uncollected, and most do not appear in any other Herbert collection.
