The second "Sherlock Holmes" collection of stories (1894) - following The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892), which follows the initial two novels: A Study in Scarlet (1887) and The Sign of Four (1890.)

Silver Blaze
The Yellow Face
The Stockbroker's Clerk
The "Gloria Scott"
The Musgrave Ritual
The Reigate Puzzle
The Crooked Man
The Resident Patient
The Greek Interpreter
The Naval Treaty
The Final Problem

Serialized in The Strand December 1892 to November 1893 - where the stores had titles in the form of "The Adventure of (etc)".

The last story is where Holmes was apparently killed off. Doyle started writing more Holmes tales with the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902), which is considered to take place (in series chronology) before "The Final Problem."

This 11 story edition follows the usual omission of "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box" - which only appeared in the first American edition of this collection. While that story was second in the sequence serialized in The Strand, all British editions of this book did NOT include it, nor did later American editions. That story is usually found in His Last Bow.
